Apparently, corporate America is abandoning Microsoft Excel.

Dramatic headline aside, I think this is spot on but let me say it differently.
You can imagine the pre-mobile world of PCs. There are about 400 million PCs, if I’m remembering the right number (the right number doesn’t really matter). When mobile came around, the number of PCs didn’t shift much but they represented a much lower percentage of “computers”.
Same with data and spreadsheets. It’s probably not a reflection of how much Excel is going away, but I’d bet lot of new data applications will not be using Excel as a front-end.
What’s the future?
The future is API-based data access.
Now, check out CA’s Live API Creator and get going to take most advantage of your data from places like MongoDB, Salesforce.com, and many different SQL data sources.
